Meet Dr. Krathen
Richard Krathen, MD, FAAD, FACMS, is a board-certified Dermatologist, board-certified Micrographic Dermatologic Surgeon, and fellowship-trained Mohs Surgeon. He is the founder of Florida Dermatology Specialists, bringing expertise in dermatologic and skin cancer care to the communities he serves in Palm Beach Gardens, Stuart, and the surrounding areas.
As the leading dermatologist and surgeon of Florida Dermatology Specialists, Dr. Krathen emphasizes patient-focused care, a priority that echoes throughout the practice. Under his leadership, patients can enjoy a safe, comfortable and professional treatment experience.
Dr. Krathen’s high level of expertise is key to delivering both medical and cosmetic dermatology services with the utmost level of care. He is a South Florida native, born and raised in the Ft. Lauderdale area. He graduated summa cum laude from Washington University in St. Louis with a degree in chemistry. He proceeded to attend Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) in Houston, Texas, achieving the high honor of graduating in the top ten of his class. He remained at BCM for his internship and residency in dermatology at the world-class Texas Medical Center.
Dr. Krathen then completed a fellowship in Mohs surgery and procedural dermatology at the Dayton Skin Surgery Center in Kettering, Ohio. This fellowship involved intensive training in Mohs and reconstructive surgery, laser surgery, and cosmetics. Dr. Krathen maintains his board certification in Dermatology and passed the first offering of the Micrographic Dermatologic Surgery board in 2021.
Dr. Krathen continues to grow and share his knowledge as a reputed professional in dermatology. He has received numerous awards and recognitions, including the Alpha Omega Alpha Award and honors in basic sciences from Baylor College of Medicine. He has published over 25 articles in professional journals about dermatology and dermatologic surgery. Dr. Krathen has also presented scientific studies and papers at various national professional meetings. When not in the office, Dr. Krathen enjoys spending time with his wife and three daughters, hiking, exercising, cooking, and playing music.
