This month we are highlighting our leading dermatologist and surgeon, Dr. Richard Krathen.

 

Can you share a bit about your background and how you got into dermatology?

I’m a Florida native but ended up at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston for medical school after undergraduate at WashU in St. Louis. I was searching for what felt right at the end of my third year of medical school. I knew right away when I took my first two week dermatology rotation that it just fit.

 

What motivates you to do your best work?

We work hard to achieve the best outcomes for our patients. We want them to know and really feel we did our best work for them.

 

What advice would you give to someone considering a career in dermatology?

Dermatology is an exciting field of medicine–so pursue it if it’s your passion!

 

Could you share a skin care tip that you believe everyone should know for healthier skin?

Sunscreen by day and retinoids by night.

 

What hobbies or activities do you enjoy outside of work?

I play guitar and piano, enjoy cooking, skiing, hiking, and hitting the gym.
