Can you share a bit about your background and how you got into dermatology or practice administration?
My journey into dermatology began during my teenage years when I struggled with acne. I attempted to adjust my diet, experimented with numerous over-the-counter products, and tried various home remedies recommended by my family. Unfortunately, none of these methods proved effective, prompting me to seek treatment from dermatologists. This personal experience sparked my interest in the field. During my years in university, I had the chance to shadow a dermatologist, which opened my eyes to the extensive scope within the field. Subsequently, I gained hands-on experience working as a medical assistant in a dermatology office, further solidifying my passion for dermatological care.
What motivates you to do your best work?
The patients! I want to make a difference in their lives whether it is by alleviating discomfort, restoring confidence, or promoting overall skin health.
What advice would you give to someone considering a career in dermatology or managing a practice?
I would advise them to familiarize themselves with the profession by shadowing and working in the field. Dermatology is a lot more complex than one might initially assume.
Could you share a skin care tip that you believe everyone should know for healthier skin?
Apart from consistently applying and reapplying sunscreen, I suggest opting for a simple skincare routine with only a few steps. Using an excessive number of products simultaneously can sometimes be counterproductive for your skin health.
What hobbies or activities do you enjoy outside of work?
When I'm not working, I enjoy being outdoors, whether it's playing tennis or taking walks along nature trails.
