Learn more in our Employee Spotlight series to discover the remarkable stories and contributions of our team members at Florida Dermatology Specialists. This month, we're thrilled to highlight Alyssa Beaudet, our outstanding board-certified Physician Assistant specializing in dermatology.

Can you share a bit about your background and how you got into dermatology?

My first introduction into the field of dermatology was as a medical assistant prior to pursuing my career as a physician assistant (PA). I worked under a physician who primarily hired pre-professional students as her clinical staff, which allowed her to challenge me to begin thinking professionally and clinically as a future healthcare provider. She taught me far beyond the duties of being a medical assistant, and we often spent many hours after clinic reviewing charts and discussing dermatologic disease processes. I truly believe this experience is where my passion for dermatology began.

What motivates you to do your best work?

My patients motivate me to do my best work. Here at FDS, we treat our patients like our friends and family. They are truly the reason I love what I do and continue to do it.

What advice would you give to someone considering a career in dermatology?

I would tell anyone considering a career in dermatology to absolutely go for it. Dermatologic disease processes are not solely confined to the skin despite the cutaneous findings we may see. This fact alone makes dermatology one of the most complex, interesting, and rewarding fields of medicine.

Could you share a skin care tip that you believe everyone should know for healthier skin?

Physical sun protection - wide-brim hats, SPF shirts, etc. - and sunscreen are really the most important things you can do for your skin. I always tell patients physical protection from the sun is always best as most people forget to reapply sunscreen throughout the day, which is just as important as putting it on in the morning.

What hobbies or activities do you enjoy outside of work?

Outside of work, you can generally find me spending quality time with family either on the boat - wearing sunscreen, of course - or around a table playing a family game. I also spend a lot of time outside walking or rollerblading with my German shepherd, Kaia. Soon, I will be welcoming a baby girl into the world, and I most look forward to becoming a mother and creating memories with her family.

Question from Dr. Krathen: What is the best part about working at FDS?

The best part about working at Florida Dermatology Specialists is that all of us providers share the same beliefs regarding patient care and structure the way we practice medicine around patient-centered values. Our patients are truly the heart of the practice, and the quality of care our patients receive is of the utmost importance to us.
